Sanders Poynt Public Access

protect your beach accessFor over 380 years the public has had uninterrupted access to Little Harbor at Sanders Poynt on the Wentworth Rd in Rye, NH according to the Friends of Sanders Poynt.  The beach is well known as a spot to dig worms and shellfish, enjoy the beach, walk pets, and launch kayaks.

In November, 2012 the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club erected a fence and planted large bushes to block access to Sanders Poynt.  Boulders were placed along the roadway to prevent cars from stopping or parking in an area used for that purpose. Parking signs were removed and only an historical sign remained.  The Friends of Sanders Poynt a group initiated by Rye resident Robert Jeserum, argues that the fence, shrubs and boulders violate a “prescriptive easement.” The town of Rye has ruled that the only avenue of appeal is through the courts. The original court date was delayed and rescheduled for April 26, 2013 at 9am at the Rockingham County Courthouse in Brentwood.

Friends of Sanders Poynt was formed to preserve public access at this site.  Their goal is to assure that the historic public beach access remains available for future generations.  For more information and a history of Sanders Point, go towww.sanderspoint.org

CCA NH is committed to preserving access to NH’s marine resources for the use of the public. The rights of the public in this case will be decided in the courts. If the public prevails and parking is permitted at the site, CCA NH has offered to police the access point and the beach.
